Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Asia's first Space University was established under the Department of Space in September 2007. IIST is presently offering 4-year B.Tech. programmes in 'Aerospace Engineering' and Avioncis' and a 5-year Masters programme in 'Applied Sciences' with more focus on space Science and Technology. A B.Tech. programme in 'Physical Sciences' is planned from this year. Classess for the third batch of students will commence from August, 2009
